For the fourth year in a row, our doctors were named by their peers as Connecticut's "Top Docs". Connecticut Magazine annually showcases their annual Top Docs listings, featuring the most recommended physicians in the state as selected by their peers. Connecticut Magazine surveyed over 5,000 physicians across the state and asked them all the same question: "Other than yourself, to whom would you send a loved one in need of medical attention?"

Soundview Medical Associates' echocardiography laboratory was granted continuing accreditation by the Intersocietal Accreditation Commission. Echocardiography is a complex imaging technique used in the detection and management of many types of heart disease. Soundview's laboratory is one of the first 1,000 echocardiography locations in the United States, Canada, and Puerto Rico to be so recognized for its commitment to high quality patient care and quality diagnostic testing.  Dr. Tao Nan Chi and his staff were commended for demonstrating the laboratory's pursuit of excellence. Soundview Medical Associates has been an accredited echocardiography facility since 2009.

Soundview Medical Associates achieved national recognition from The National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA) in Washington, DC for their certification as a Level 3 Physician Practice Connections—Patient-Centered Medical Home. The Patient-Centered Medical Home is a model of healthcare based on an ongoing, personal relationship between a patient, doctor and the patient's care team. Whatever the medical needs, the patient has a medical "home"; a single, trusted doctor and care team, through which continuous, comprehensive and integrated care is provided. The ultimate goal is to keep patients healthy and prevent illness.

To receive recognition, Soundview Medical demonstrated the ability to meet the program’s key elements, embodying characteristics of the medical home. The accreditation is good for 3 years. Read press release.

Dr. Charles Cochran has been selected for the 2011 Best of Norwalk Award in the Internal Medicine Practitioners category by the U.S. Commerce Association (USCA). The USCA "Best of Local Business" Award Program recognizes outstanding local businesses throughout the country. The 2011 USCA Award Program focuses on quality, not quantity. Dr. Michael Schwartz, who works at our Darien office, has been elected to the Connecticut Boxing Hall of Fame. The induction ceremony will be held at Mohegan Sun Resort on Oct 29, 2011. Since 1991 when he was appointed ringside physician for the State of Connecticut, Dr. Schwartz has been committed to improving the safety and health of the professional boxer. Dr. Michael Schwartz was awarded the Patient's Choice Award in 2010 and 2008-2009.  He also received the 2010 Most Compassionate Doctor Award. The honor is bestowed to physicians who have received near perfect scores as voted by patients. Of the nation's 720,000 active physicians, less than 6% were accorded this honor by their patients in 2010.

Dr. Erik Beger, rheumatologist with Soudview Medical Associates, appeared on Channel 84 on the popular Norwalk Hospital Health Talk television show. Dr. Beger will talk about Rheumatoid Arthritis. Channel 84 is on Cablevision local programming. The show was broadcast from Monday, Feb 15 through Feb 21. Broadcasts were are at 6:30PM, 8PM, 9:30 PM and 11PM each evening. Allscripts announced that Soundview Medical Associates has selected Allscripts Electronic Health Record (EHR) and Practice Management (PM) to enhance the quality of the care delivered by its 22 physicians, improve patient communications, and better manage the cost of care delivery. Soundview plans to establish connectivity between the new system and key information systems at Norwalk Hospital. “Our goal is to provide state-of-the-art care for the patients of the Norwalk region, and Allscripts is helping us get there with capabilities like connectivity to Norwalk hospital’s clinical information systems so our providers have all the information needed, whether from other physicians or the hospital, to provide true continuity of care for better health results,” said Smith.
